Six steps from brief to handover
- Write a one-page brief
What the software developer must deliver, by when, and what done looks like. Include links to sites or tools you like.
- Shortlist three to five people
From referrals, marketplaces or portfolios. Ask how they write down decisions; good software developers leave a trail.
- Run a small paid test
A small API endpoint with tests and a README explaining setup. A half-day task like this shows quality and communication.
- Agree scope and milestones
Fixed price per milestone, with acceptance criteria you can check.
- Handover and ownership
Get the code, accounts, docs and a walkthrough before the final payment.
