Claude Pricing Plans for Business: Free vs Pro vs Max vs Team

Compare Claude plans for business: Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, with 2026 prices, usage limits, privacy differences, a decision guide and ROI math.

Claude's plans range from free to enterprise contracts, and the right choice for a small business is rarely the most expensive one. It depends on how many people will use it, how heavily, and how sensitive your data is. This guide compares Claude pricing plans as of late 2026 and gives you a simple way to decide.

Warning: Anthropic changes plans, prices and usage allowances regularly. The figures below were read from Anthropic's pricing page and help articles in the second half of 2026. Verify at claude.com/pricing before purchasing.

How usage limits work

Paid plans are not unlimited. Usage is measured per session window and per week. Longer conversations, large files and the most capable models use your allowance faster. When you hit a limit, you wait for the window to reset or, on plans that allow it, buy extra usage at API rates with a spending cap you set.

Ways to stretch your allowance:

  • Start a new conversation when you change topics, since long threads resend everything each time.
  • Put reference material in a Project's knowledge instead of pasting it into every chat.
  • Use a faster, lighter model for simple jobs like reformatting, and the most capable model for reasoning-heavy work.
  • Ask for exactly the output you need.

Privacy differences between plans

On consumer plans (Free, Pro and Max), Anthropic lets you choose whether your chats can be used to improve its models. Open the privacy settings and make a deliberate choice; for any business use involving client information, turning model training off is the conservative default. On commercial plans (Team and Enterprise) and the API, Anthropic's commercial terms govern data handling, and customer content is not used for training by default. Read the current Privacy Policy and Commercial Terms at anthropic.com before relying on either statement.

Decision guide

  • Solo owner, under about two hours of AI use a day: Pro, billed annually.
  • You hit Pro limits several days a week, or you build things with Claude Code: Max 5x.
  • Two or more people sharing Projects, needing admin control and one bill: Team, with Standard seats for most people and a Premium seat for your heaviest user.
  • You want to automate one repeatable job, such as drafting replies to web form submissions: keep a subscription for daily work and add API usage for the automation.
  • You need single sign-on, audit logs or a signed data agreement: talk to Anthropic about Enterprise.

Cost-benefit math

Monthly value = (Hours saved per month × your hourly value) − plan cost

Worked example: a solo consultant

  • Hourly value: $75
  • Hours saved per month on Pro: 12 (proposal drafts, email replies, research summaries)
  • Plan cost: $20

Monthly value = (12 × $75) − $20 = $880

Even at a conservative two hours saved, the plan pays for itself. The real question is whether you use it enough to form the habit.

Worked example: a five-person team

A small marketing agency compares five Pro subscriptions with a five-seat Team plan.

OptionMonthly cost (approx., as of 2026)What they get
5 × Pro (monthly billing)5 × $20 = $100Individual accounts, no shared Projects, separate billing, consumer terms
Team, 5 Standard seats (monthly billing)5 × $25 = $125Shared Projects, admin controls, central billing, commercial terms
Team, 4 Standard + 1 Premium(4 × $25) + $125 = $225Same, plus a high-usage seat for the lead strategist

For $25 more a month, Team gives the agency shared brand voice and proposal Projects, centralized control when people join or leave, and commercial data terms for client work. If the team saves even one hour a month each, the difference is covered many times over.

Choosing between subscription and API

UseBest fit
Daily writing, research, analysis by peopleSubscription (Pro, Max or Team)
Automated workflows running without a person, such as processing form submissionsAPI, billed per token
Building tools for customers or internal systemsAPI
Mixed daily use plus one automationSubscription plus a small API budget

API pricing is billed by input and output tokens and differs by model. Set spending limits in the developer console and start small.

Plan selection checklist

  • Number of people who will use Claude
  • Rough hours of daily use per person
  • Whether client or confidential data is involved
  • Need for shared Projects and admin controls
  • Need for Claude Code or heavy usage
  • Any automation that belongs on the API
  • Privacy settings reviewed after signup
  • Prices verified on claude.com/pricing

Mistakes to avoid

  • Buying Max before learning whether Pro limits actually constrain you
  • Letting staff use personal accounts for client work
  • Leaving model training settings at defaults without a decision
  • Pasting the same reference documents into every chat instead of using Projects
  • Paying for seats nobody uses
