Hire UI/UX Designer for Construction
Senior, direct, no layers

A UI/UX designer makes your product or website easy to understand and act on: research with real users, flows that match how people actually behave, and interfaces that are clean, consistent, and tested before they are built. Built for construction workflows, not a generic brief.

Construction — UI/UX Designer

A senior ui/ux designer for construction

Construction margin is lost in administration and rework: estimates built from stale rates, change orders agreed by phone and disputed later, schedules that live in one person's head, and clients who call the site because nobody updated them. The firms that protect margin are the ones whose estimating, scheduling, field reporting, and client communication run on one visible record.

A UI/UX designer makes your product or website easy to understand and act on: research with real users, flows that match how people actually behave, and interfaces that are clean, consistent, and tested before they are built. Good design here is measured in completed enquiries and bookings, not in awards. For construction, field screens and client portals are where design pays, because a form nobody can use on site is worse than no form at all.

A project moves from bid to contract, from contract to schedule and procurement, through field execution with RFIs and submittals, to inspections, punch lists, and handover. Every handoff between office and field is a chance for the wrong drawing, the wrong quantity, or the wrong instruction to reach site, and each one costs time, material, or trust. What you get

What this engagement covers for construction

  • User research with the people who actually use the product: interviews —, observation, and the friction points they name.
  • User flows mapped for the core jobs —, with dead ends, errors, and edge cases designed rather than discovered after launch.
  • Wireframes and prototypes tested with real users —, so expensive rebuilds are avoided by fixing flows early.
  • Visual design system: type —, colour, components, and patterns that stay consistent across every screen.
  • Developer handover with specifications and assets —, so what is built matches what was designed.
  • Usability testing after launch —, with the findings prioritised by how many users they block.
Tools and systems

Built around the tools construction actually runs on

Procore is construction management covering RFIs, submittals, drawings, punch lists, and daily logs. Buildertrend is project management for residential builders, covering scheduling, budgets, selections, and client updates. Autodesk Construction Cloud is document, drawing, and issue management for larger projects and design coordination. PlanGrid is field drawings and punch lists on mobile, now part of Autodesk Construction Cloud. Sage 100 Contractor is job costing, payroll, and accounting built for contractors. QuickBooks is accounting used by many smaller contractors alongside their project tools. JobTread is estimating, budgeting, and project tracking for builders and remodelers. Houzz Pro is lead, project, and client management for residential builders and remodelers. CompanyCam is photo documentation organised by project, so site photos are findable months later. DroneDeploy is drone mapping and progress documentation for larger sites. DocuSign is signatures for contracts, change orders, and subcontractor agreements.

Work starts from the tools the firm already runs, whether that is Procore, Buildertrend, or spreadsheets and QuickBooks. Field adoption decides everything, so any new system is judged on whether site teams will open it on a phone, not on how complete its feature list looks in the office.

The daily reality is coordination: subcontractors to schedule, materials to arrive on time, inspections to pass, and clients to keep informed without a site visit for every question. The systems that help most are the ones the field team will actually open on a phone: daily logs, photos, punch items, and change records that match what the office sees.

How it works

From kickoff to delivery for construction

  1. Research the users

Real users are observed and interviewed, and the core jobs and friction points are listed.

  2. Prototype the flows

Flows and screens are prototyped and tested before any production build is committed.

  3. Design the system

The visual system is built consistently across screens, with states and errors included.

  4. Hand over and test

Developers receive full specifications, and usability testing continues after launch.

Outcomes

What changes for construction

The result worth measuring is simple: fewer surprises on cost and schedule, a change-order trail nobody can dispute, inspections and punch lists closed without chasing, and clients updated without a site visit for every question. The gain comes from one visible record of the job, kept current by the people doing the work.

For this engagement specifically, the gain is visitors who understand what to do next and actually do it, instead of leaving confused. The measure of success is agreed at scope stage, in terms your business already tracks, and reviewed as the work lands rather than asserted at the end.

Why Omer

Why hire Omer

  • Design measured in completed enquiries, not in how pretty the screens look in a portfolio.
  • Senior-only delivery: one person owns the work, its decisions, and its handover.
  • Fixed scope agreed before build, so you know what is included and what is not.
  • Direct communication throughout, with no account layers between you and the person doing the work.
  • Documentation and handover, so the work keeps running and can be maintained after the engagement.
FAQ

Questions, answered

Is a full redesign needed, or just tweaks?
It depends on where users get stuck. If the flows themselves are wrong, new colours will not fix them, and a redesign of the flows is the honest answer. If the flows are sound and only clarity and consistency are weak, targeted improvements are cheaper and faster. Research and testing settle it before a design direction is chosen.
How is document control handled?
One current set of drawings and documents, with versions tracked and superseded copies clearly marked, so the field never builds from an old revision. RFIs, submittals, and change orders follow the same record, which is what prevents the most expensive kind of rework.
What about safety and compliance documentation?
Safety records, permits, and inspection documents are kept in the same project record as the work itself, with reminders for renewals and expiry. The system supports compliance; it does not replace the firm's own safety responsibilities or the requirements of the jurisdiction.
How does an engagement start?
A discovery call first, where we discuss the construction work, the systems already in place, and the outcome that matters. If the fit is right, you receive a fixed scope to approve before any build starts, with the measures of success written into it.
What do you need from us to start?
Access to the tools the construction work already runs on, a named contact who can answer workflow questions, and an honest picture of where the process breaks today. The less that is hidden in discovery, the fewer surprises appear during build.
